About Neon Snake

Neon Snake takes the most elementary mechanic in video games — a body that lengthens, a closed grid, no reverse gear — and adds the one thing it was usually missing: legibility. The body fades toward the tail, so you can see at a glance which segment will free up first.

The difficulty is not speed, which ramps gently. It is room. Past thirty orbs the grid closes in on itself and every move becomes a space calculation. Experienced players trace tight loops along the edges to keep the middle open.

How to play

  1. Steer with the arrow keys or WASD; on a phone, swipe in the direction you want.
  2. Each orb adds one segment and nudges the speed up slightly.
  3. The run ends if the head hits a wall or any part of the body.
  4. Your best score is kept in this browser — no account involved.

Three ways to get better

  • Never cut through the middle once your body covers half the grid.
  • Hug the edges: it keeps an escape corridor open down the centre.
  • Speed levels off around forty orbs — after that it is space that kills you, not pace.
