About Four in a Row

Four in a row is a solved game: the first player always wins with perfect play from the centre. Our AI is not perfect — it searches a few moves ahead depending on the level you pick — which leaves a real game to play.

The two-player mode on one screen stays the most interesting: the depth comes from the double threat, when a single move creates two winning lines at once.

How to play

  1. Click a column to drop your token into it.
  2. First to line up four tokens — horizontally, vertically or diagonally — wins.
  3. The game is a draw if all 42 squares fill up.
  4. Pick your opponent: easy AI, solid AI, or a second player.

Three ways to get better

  • The first move in the centre is worth more than any other.
  • Count parity: on a column, even rows favour the second player.
  • Build a double threat rather than an isolated line of three.
